Education & Teaching

Teaching and mentoring residents, fellows and young surgeons.

Someone took the time to teach me. Paying that forward is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

Training the next generation

I stay involved in teaching and training residents, fellows and young surgeons, sharing what I've learned about surgery, patient care and building a career you love.

  • Adjunct Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, University of Central Florida College of Medicine
  • Lead Instructor, Phacoemulsification Wet Lab, ASCRS Annual Meeting (2022–2025)
  • DMEK and DSAEK Wet Lab Instructor, ASCRS Annual Meeting (2022–2023) and Women in Ophthalmology Annual Meeting (2023)
  • Faculty leader, Expert Guidance on Cataract & Refractive Surgery: Clinical Reasoning Skills for the Young Surgeon, a two-month virtual course with Evolve Medical Education (2023)
  • Co-Instructor, Learning the DMEK Procedure: An Introductory Course, American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting (2019)

Mentorship

Since 2013 I've mentored students through the American Public Health Association's National Mentoring Program, especially people in public health who hope to go to medical school. During medical school I was Volunteer Director of MERIT (Medical Education Resources Initiative for Teens).

I care about helping young surgeons build careers that are both excellent and sustainable. I've spoken about career happiness and work-life balance with Ophthalmology Times and on the CataractCoach podcast.

Teaching through research and writing

I write for fellow surgeons in publications such as CRSToday and Young MD Connect, and my research helps shape how corneal transplants and dry eye are treated. See Research & Publications and Speaking & Media.
