About

Whole-Person Health

Why I treat the whole person, not just the eyeball.

Finding calm by the water
Finding calm by the water

Your eyes don't exist in isolation. They reflect, and are affected by, the health of the rest of your body.

The eye as a window

Much of my research has looked at how eye conditions connect to the rest of life. Dry eye can quietly make reading and screen work harder. Autoimmune conditions like Sjögren's can show up in the eyes first. Glaucoma drops can affect the surface of the eye. Seeing those connections changes how I care for people.

What I pay attention to

  • Sleep, stress and screen habits, which all affect how comfortable and clear your eyes feel
  • Other medical conditions and medications that can show up in the eyes
  • How you actually live: your work, hobbies and goals, so treatment fits your life

Healthy aging

Many of my patients are at a stage of life where staying active, independent and sharp matters enormously, and good vision is a big part of that. I'm deeply interested in the science of healthy aging and longevity, and I'm always learning how to help people not just see well, but live well for longer.

Yoga and balance

I'm a certified Hatha Vinyasa yoga teacher. I trained during residency, and I've taught yoga to people who are visually impaired. It keeps me grounded, and it reminds me that health is about the whole person.
