Eye Care
LASIK & PRK
Laser vision correction for life with less dependence on glasses.
LASIK and PRK reshape the cornea, the clear front window of the eye, with a laser so that light focuses properly. They can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, and many people no longer need glasses or contacts for most of their day.
How they differ
- LASIK creates a thin flap in the cornea, reshapes the tissue underneath, and lays the flap back down. Recovery is quick, and many people see well the next day.
- PRK reshapes the surface of the cornea without a flap. Recovery takes longer, usually several days to a few weeks, but it can be the better and safer choice for people with thinner corneas or certain lifestyles and jobs.
Is it right for you?
A careful evaluation matters more than the laser itself. I look at your prescription, the shape and thickness of your cornea, the health of your ocular surface and your goals. Not everyone is a good candidate, and if laser vision correction isn't the safest option, there are often alternatives, such as the EVO ICL.
Dry eye and laser surgery
Dry eye can affect both your measurements and how comfortable you feel after surgery. Treating it beforehand is part of how I plan for the best result.
